TENOM: The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, took time today to meet local residents and small vegetable traders at the Tenom Town Tamu.

The Melalap State Assemblyman (ADUN) visited the community as a gesture of appreciation following his recent victory in the 17th Sabah State Legislative Assembly General Election (PRU DU Sabah).

“This is my second time meeting my supporters. I extend my sincere thanks to all the people of Melalap who have supported me,” he said when met during the visit.

Jamawi, accompanied by his wife, Datin Zainatunnisa Ibrahim, also held a brief meeting with the Chinese Kapitans at Soon Heng Coffee Shop to hear their views and discuss local issues raised by the Chinese community.

Separately, he officiated at the closing ceremony of the ASTAKA Takraw Academy Clinic at the Datuk Seri Panglima Antanom Hall. He also attended the final match of the Tenom Super League for the Jamawi Jaafar (JJ) Cup, organised by JJ Football Club in collaboration with MRZ Production, Berita Sukan Tempatan, and the Melalap Youth Carnival, held at the Tenom Sports Complex.

In the 17th PRU DU Sabah, Jamawi secured a majority of 525 votes in his second attempt at contesting the Melalap state seat.

He said the path to victory was far from easy, especially when facing seven other candidates.

Jamawi attributed his success to the hard work and commitment of the entire party machinery, who worked tirelessly to secure the win.

Also present were the Melalap District Chief, Tusib Tulas; Kapitan Chong Neng Choon; Kapitan Chung Kiam Fui; Kapitan Lai Foon Han; and Kapitan Michael Chu Siew Kok.
