Malaysian tower runner So Wai Ching wins Empire State Building Run-Up

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian top tower runner Soh Wai Ching has become the first Asian to win the 2021 Empire State Building Run-Up.


The outstanding 27-year-old athlete managed to scale 86 floors of the building in New York in just 10 minutes 46 seconds.


Wai Ching who also ranked second for the world's tower runner earned the elite men's division title after conquering 1,576 steps of the 320 meters building.


"It's my duty and I believe it's every Malaysians' duty to put Malaysia on the International Stage. I am so happy to become the First Asian to Win the Empire State Building Run-Up," he said in his Twitter account recently.


He also thanked Dubai, the United Arab Emirates for allowing him to conduct his training there for a month in preparation for the Empire State Building Run-Up.


The Empire State Building Run-Up is the world’s first and most famous tower race where runners race up its famed 86 flights or 1,576 stairs.


The winners will get to donate US$100,000 to a charity of their choice.
