Reactivation of UPKO Putatan

4 November 2023

PUTATAN: Former Putatan Member of Parliament, Datuk Dr. Marcus Mojigoh, is now leading the leadership of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organization (UPKO) Putatan, with a membership of 2,100 people.

In early 2020, Marcus was then the Chief of UPKO Putatan Division, but left the party before joining the Solidarity Party of My Homeland (STAR) in 2021.

UPKO President, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said that with the return of the leaders of the Putatan division to the fold of UPKO, the party is reactivating the Putatan Division of UPKO.

"We are reactivating the Putatan Division of UPKO, which is once again led by its former leader, Datuk Marcus, with a membership of 2,100 people so far.

"This shows that after the leadership transition within the party, new members have come forward, including those who have previously been members and leaders of other parties, as well as those who have never joined any party, who have joined UPKO," he said.

He said this when met by reporters after launching the UPKO Putatan Division at the Kampung Duvanson Putatan Hall, here, today.

Ewon, who is also the Member of Parliament for Penampang and the State Legislative Assembly (Adun) for Kadamaian, said that in the near future, he will attend receptions for former UPKO members and new members in Keningau and several other divisions throughout Sabah.

"I see this as support for the party and for the Unity Government, for them to be part of the government administration process by expressing their views and criticisms to me, including those that I can bring to discussions, whether in the cabinet, party leadership, or the leadership of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition or the unity secretariat," he said.

"At the UPKO National Convention last September, I invited former leaders and members of the party to return to the party, as well as new members. I asked existing members not to label the former leaders and party members who left, but to welcome their rejoining.

"I am delighted that this has been well-received in Putatan today, which witnesses the return of Datuk Marcus and the reactivation of this division, which is mostly led by professionals and former senior civil servants," he said.
