KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will host the 62nd State-level Malaysia Day Celebration on 16th September at the historic Padang Merdeka, here.
Announcing this at its inaugural meeting on Thursday, the Chairman of the Main Committee for the 2025 Malaysia Day Celebration, Datuk Seri Christina Liew, stated that Hari Malaysia holds a special significance for all Malaysians.
She reiterated that Sabah is a state of great historical importance in the formation of Malaysia.

“Hosting this event is a meaningful gesture that honours our shared history and aspirations as Malaysians.
“It is not only a day to commemorate the birth of our beloved nation but also an opportunity to reflect on the unity, diversity, and harmony that characterise Malaysia.
“This year, with our chosen theme, ‘Malaysia Madani, Rakyat Disantuni’, we aim to further strengthen these values and inspire all Malaysians to embrace the spirit of togetherness.”
In a statement issued after chairing the meeting at the Ministry’s Conference Room, Liew, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, emphasised the importance of continued collaboration.
“While progress on preparations is going well, there remain critical areas that require immediate attention from the Organising Committee, particularly logistics, security, protocol arrangements, and promotional activities.
“I urge all agencies and stakeholders to work closely together and expedite any pending matters to ensure a smooth and successful celebration.
“The success of this event depends on the unwavering support and cooperation of everyone involved — from government ministries and agencies to the private sector, local authorities, and community leaders.
“I call upon each of you to actively play your part with dedication,” she added.
The Minister expressed hope that this year’s Hari Malaysia celebrations will set a new benchmark, not only in terms of organisation and coordination but also in encouraging greater public participation and impactful media coverage.
“I am confident that, through our collective efforts, we can deliver a memorable and meaningful celebration for all Malaysians in Sabah,” she said, noting that the Organising Committee anticipates an attendance of around 30,000 people at Padang Merdeka on 16th September.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Datuk Josie Lai, is the Chairperson of the Celebration Implementation Committee.
