This achievement reflects Sunway University's unwavering commitment to delivering world-class education and nurturing graduates who are prepared for the challenges of the future. With a strong portfolio of academic programmes, dedicated faculty, and a supportive learning environment, Sunway is building a university that equips students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in a competitive global workforce.
In addition, in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, Sunway University advanced to 81st position worldwide out of over 2,300 institutions, a significant rise from its previous ranking in the 201–300 band. This year, the university also secured a place in the global Top 100 for six Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including five in the Top 50 and two in the Top 25. This positions Sunway as one of the world’s leading universities championing sustainability.
Professor Dr Sibrandes Poppema, President and Vice-Chancellor of Sunway University, stated: “The historic leap in our rankings reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff, and students. It demonstrates that our holistic approach focusing on academic quality, sustainability, innovation, and international collaboration is truly making a difference. We are committed to maintaining this momentum and continuing to contribute meaningfully to Malaysia and the wider global community.”
Sunway University has consistently been recognised across major international rankings for its strengths in specific disciplines, its commitment to sustainability, and research excellence. It is the only private university in ASEAN to be ranked in all three of the leading global university rankings: the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, QS World University Rankings, and the Academic Ranking of World Universities by Shanghai Ranking.
Through these achievements, Malaysian higher education is demonstrating its capacity to make a significant mark on the global stage, supporting the nation’s aspiration to build a knowledge-driven economy powered by skilled, values-driven talent.
