TANJUNG ARU: Founder and Adviser to the Society of Hope Sabah, Datuk Seri Christina Liew, paid a visit on Monday to the former Mother General of the Order of Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (FSIC), Mother Cecilia Liew, at the Stella Maris Convent (Senior Sisters).
The 83-year-old retired headmistress of St Francis Convent Primary School is currently bedridden after suffering a fractured hip in a fall in October.
Liew spent time with Mother Cecilia, wishing her a swift recovery and sharing updates, while also joining in the singing of hymns.

During the visit, Liew extended rice supplies, provisions and diaper packs to the Stella Maris Convent under the Society’s social responsibility programme.
She also made a personal donation to the institution. Receiving the contributions on behalf of the convent was Local Animator (Resident-in-Charge) Mother Grace Deosing, herself a former Mother General of FSIC.
“I thank Datuk Christina for her concern for my well-being and for her generous contribution to Stella Maris Home,” said Mother Cecilia, who offered prayers for her visitors.
Liew, who founded the Society of Hope Sabah in 2007, explained that its community service began with the distribution of food aid to flood victims in Paitan and underprivileged children in the interior.
“The Society has since evolved into a full-fledged organisation capable of addressing the educational needs of children from low-income families through its JOM Balik Sekolah programme and scholarship scheme,” she said, responding to Mother Cecilia’s interest in the Society’s work.
In 2022, the Society earned national recognition in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for distributing 10,000 sets of stationery to children from B40 communities in 80 primary schools and kindergartens across 20 districts in Sabah.
It is currently led by Liew’s daughter, Josephine Hadikusumo.
