KOTA KINABALU: United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) vice president Datuk Wong Thien Fook has expressed firm support for party president Datuk Ewon Benedick’s decision to resign from the Federal Cabinet, calling it a courageous and principled move in defence of Sabah’s constitutional rights.

Wong said Ewon’s decision reflected true leadership and respect for the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which enshrines Sabah’s position and entitlements within the Federation of Malaysia.

“What is written in the Federal Constitution and guaranteed under MA63 cannot be compromised at any cost,” he said in a statement today.

He added that Ewon’s resignation underscored the non-negotiable nature of Sabah’s rights, including the 40% revenue entitlement, which must be honoured both in letter and spirit.

“Your bold stand shows that leadership is not about position, but about integrity, justice, and the courage to uphold the people’s rights,” Wong said, extending his full support and appreciation for Ewon’s decision.
